ISVS II, Depok

ISVS-2, the second International Seminar on Vernacular Settlements was held from 16th-17th February 2002 at the University of Indonesia, Depok, Indonesia, under the guidance of Prof. Gunawan Tjahjono on the theme ‘Vernacular settlements in the new Millennium: Resistance and Resilience of Local Knowledge in the built environment’. This second seminar formalized and concretised the ISVS movement particularly with the participation of a large number of international participants. It attracted 70 participants representing 15 countries. Prof. Miki Desai, from the CEPT University, India, saw the potential of the movement and provided much needed leadership in transforming this to an international event.
